Akhirnya gue selesai baca juga the most anticipated book of 2008, Maryamah Karpov. Buku ke-empat dari serial Laskar Pelangi by Andrea Hirata ini memang sudah dinanti-nanti sejak lama. Kebetulan gara-gara punya Toko Buku Online jadi bisa dapet bukunya sebelum di-launching hihi. Trus langsung baca deh selembar demi selembar.

Buku yang tebalnya 500-an halaman ini dimulai dengan kepulangan Ikal ke Belitung setelah lulus dari kuliahnya di Sorbonne. Nuansa komediknya yang bercampur dengan sastra Melayu sangat kental di awal-awal penceritaan. Semakin ke tengah ceritanya semakin intelek namun tetap indah dengan penceritaan khas Andrea Hirata. Misinya satu: Menemukan cinta dalam hidupnya, A Ling.

Bagi yang blum tau atau mungkin lupa, The Tales of Beedle The Bard ini adalah bagian dari cerita di buku  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Ketika Profesor Dumbledore meninggal dunia, ia mewariskan sebuah buku dongeng anak-anak berjudul The Tales of Beedle The Bard kepada Hermione Granger sebagai sebuah petunjuk (clue) untuk menyelesaikan misi yang ia tinggalkan untuk Harry Potter dkk.

Salah satu cerita yang dimuat dibuku ini adalah  “The Tale of The Three Brothers” yang isinya kurang lebih seperti dibawah ini:

“The story is about three brothers who, travelling together, reach an impassable river. They make a magical bridge over the river. Halfway across the bridge, they meet the personification of Death who is angry for losing another three victims. He pretends to be impressed by them and grants each a wish as a reward. The eldest brother asks for an unbeatable duelling wand. The middle brother asks for the ability to resurrect the dead. The youngest brother realises Death’s intentions and asks for a way to stop Death from following him. Death gives him his cloak of invisibility. Afterwards, the brothers go their separate ways.

The eldest brother, bragging about his powerful wand, is robbed while asleep and killed. The middle brother uses his ability to bring back the woman he loved, who died before he could marry her. However, she is not happy being alive again. He kills himself to join her. As for the youngest brother, Death never manages to find him, as he stays hidden under his cloak. Many years later, the brother removes his cloak and gives it to his son. Pleased with his achievements, he greets Death as an old friend and chooses to leave together with him “as equals”. 

Anyway, di buku The Tales of Beedle The Bard ini bukan cuma memuat cerita diatas, tapi juga ada  beberapa cerita lain lengkap dengan penjelasan-penjelasan dari Albus Dumbledore tentang hubungannya dengan dongeng-dongeng yang diceritakan di buku ini.

Pokoknya OMG!! gw ga akan bisa membaca apapun sebelum gw baca buku ini duluuuuuuuuuu arghhh *histeris*
